Robert D. Gaston

Robert Duane Gaston, age 93 of Greencastle, Indiana, passed away on August 19th, 2026, at Hickory Creek at Sunset.  He was born on February 24th, 1933, in Lomard, Illinois to Guy and Nina (McClure)Gaston. 

Robert was a 1951 graduate of Belle Union High School.  He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran.  He graduated from Purdue University with a bachelors degree in Industrial Manufacturing and Aeronautical Engineering.  He worked for Allison Aerospace, IBM, DePauw, and retired from Ford.  Robert was past president of the Rotary Club and a member of the American Legion Post 58.  He was a 4-H Leader in Greencastle, as well as a past member of the New Providence Church. 

Robert married Mary (Varvel)Gaston on October 26th, 1956, and she survives.  Together they had two children, Myrna (Gaston)Scheuermann and Rick Gaston.  He is also survived by his grandchildren; Jessica, Brandy, Carissa, Amber, Kyla, Brett, Russell and Lokysa; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; and a large extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Elwin, Lou, Guy, Gene and Francis, a nephew, Bruce and a son In law, Curt Scheuermann.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 29th, 2026 at 1:00pm, Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale.  Visitation will be held from 11:00am until services time.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.  Condolences may be made at www.whitakerfunerals.net.
