Phyllis A. (Clements) Pennington

 Phyllis Anne Pennington, 84, of Quincy, Indiana, was born February 15, 1942, in Casey County, Kentucky, to Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Clements. She passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family and loved ones. As she entered Heaven, she was met with open arms by her beloved daughter, Lavada Boyette. Phyllis was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was at the center of her life, and there was nothing she loved more than spending time with her children, 15 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She had a special way of making everyone around her feel loved and cared for. Phyllis married the love of her life, Arvil Pennington, on August 19, 1962 in Jamestown, Indiana. Together, they shared nearly 64 years of marriage and built a beautiful life and family together. They were blessed with seven wonderful children, and the family they created became one of Phyllis’s greatest joys. Phyllis had a love for gardening and took great pride in caring for her beautiful flowers and growing things in her garden. She especially loved canning what she grew and sharing the fruits of her labor with those she loved. It was a tradition she lovingly passed down to her children and grandchildren, who will continue to carry on that special part of her legacy. She was also known as the best cook, and no one ever left her home hungry. If you stopped by for a visit, you could count on Phyllis making sure you had something to eat. Feeding and caring for the people she loved was simply part of who she was. Some of the most treasured memories of Phyllis will be found around the table, in the garden, and in the traditions, she passed down to the generations who came after her. She is survived by her loving husband, Arvil; her children, Rosemary (Dan) Henson, Audrey (Kip) Myers, Dewey (Ami) Pennington, Rachel Goss, Keith (Carol) Pennington, and Nick (Brooke) Pennington; her 15 beloved grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Ronnie Clements and Priscilla Konczal, along with many other extended family members and loved ones. Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Lavada Boyette; her siblings, Vrena Pennington, Thomas Dewey Clements and Piney Clements; and her parents, Thomas Jefferson and Sarah Clements. Phyllis leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will forever carry her love with them. She will be remembered for her caring heart, her beautiful flowers and gardens, the meals she lovingly prepared, the traditions she passed down, and, most of all, the unconditional love she gave to her family. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the love, lessons, and traditions she shared will live on through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for generations to come.

Funeral services for Phyllis will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 20th, 2026, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at www.whitakerfunerals.net
