Deanna J. Freese

Deanna “De” Jo Bowman Freese of Eminence, age 77, passed from this life to eternal life on Friday, October 22, 2021.

De was born on April 7, 1944 in Martinsville, Indiana and grew up in Eminence with her parents, Mary Jane (Truax) and James “Big Jim” Bowman, Sr., and siblings James “Jim” (Cathy) Bowman, Jr., and Deborah (Thomas) Mulvihill. She graduated in 1962 from Eminence High School and spent much of her life as a bookkeeper working in various industries in and around Indianapolis.

She was a devoted wife and dedicated mother, always putting others before herself. After retiring, De became a full-time Mimi, lovingly taking care of her grandchildren. Family was the most important thing to De, whether by chance or by choice. Very friendly and outgoing, she loved music and dancing, and enjoyed being around people. She touched the lives of those around her by being warm-hearted and kind.

De was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star on September 17, 1963 and was a proud member of the Eminence Chapter No. 546, earning her 50-year pin in 2013. She was a true believer in Christ and looked to Him throughout her life to find peace.

De is survived by her daughter, Tina (Joseph) Jennison and grandchildren Avery and Ryan. Also surviving are her brother and sister, stepchildren, Katy (Derek) Unverzagt and Kenny (Amber) Freese, and step-grandchildren, Sam, Abbie, and Amalia.

De was proceeded in death by her husband, Ronald K. Freese, and both parents.  

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 26th at Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale, IN and funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 27th with burial immediately following at Shumaker Cemetery on SR 142 near Eminence, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eastern Star Eminence Chapter No. 546 in care of Dedee Rhea at PO Box 811, Eminence, IN 46125.
