Freda Parker, 90, Belle Union, passed away on February 24, 2010 at The Mill Pond Health Campus in Greencastle. She was born on May 5, 1919 in Putnam County, Indiana and was the daughter of the late George L. and Ada E. [McCammack] Hurst.
She was a 1937 graduate of Belle Union High School and received her teaching certificate from Central Normal College in Danville, Indiana. Freda taught school for several years at both Belle Union and Stilesville elementary schools. She was a member of the Stilesville Christian Church, where she also was active as a member of the Social Helpers. Blessed with a lovely voice, Freda often sang at church services, weddings and funerals. She also was a member of the Cartersburg Chapter of O.E.S.
On May 19, 1937, she married her childhood sweetheart, George H. Parker. She and George were married for over fifty years before George passed away on October 14, 1992.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitiation will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 from Noon to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Stilesville Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Parker Conner and husband Bill, son, Richard George Parker and wife Vickie, sister, Margaret Rose, brothers, Loyd R. Hurst and Morris Hurst and wife Wanda, grandchildren, Anne Conner Uberta and husband Brent, Kara Conner Trimmer and husbnd Matt, William Patrick Conner and wife Sandi, Matthew Helmer and wife Joyce, great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Kirsten, Jacob, Dylan, Haley and Parker.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Pearl Jean Staley, Helen Elrod Lillian F. Arnold and brothers, Carl L. Hurst and Paul Allen Hurst.
