James Eugene Kirton, 71, passed away September 13th, 2017 at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born August 22nd, 1946 in Greencastle, Indiana to Harry Kirton and Audrey(Morgan) Duncan.
James grew up in Cloverdale, Indiana and Graduated from Cloverdale High School in 1964. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served 20 plus years during which he completed three tours of duty in Vietnam, Specializing in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and on several Presidential Protective Services Details (PSD). In 1986, James retired with the rank of Master Sergeant.
James returned to Cloverdale, Indiana where he began working for the State of Indiana as a Correctional Officer for the Plainfield Correctional Facility and retired as a Roadway Engineer Project Manager from INDOT. Once retired, he moved and resided in Coolidge, Arizona.
James was married to Thelma Jean Young, January 1967 until June 1981. On August 22nd, 1981, he married Hannelore Elisabeth (Nettermann) Querner in Marburg, Germany. They were happily married for 32 years. James was involved with the EOD organization in Coolidge, Arizona. He enjoyed Bowling, going to casinos, traveling, and spending time with family and Friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Toi Kirton, wife Hannelore Kirton, siblings Harry Kirton, Dorothy Johnson, Nancy Manley, Judy Reisinger and Ralph Kirton, and grandchildren Robert Dye, and LaTosha Snyder.
James is survived by his daughters Tammy (Mark) Cole of Cloverdale, Indiana, Manuela (James) Jacobs of Springfield, Virginia and Dolores Brusco of Rineyville, Kentucky and son James (Katie) Kirton I of Pickerington, Ohio, siblings Jeanette (Mike Summitt of Greencastle, Indiana and Pam (Terry) Kendall of Greencastle, Indiana, grandchildren Tammy Brusco, Toi Neibler, Ellicia Jacobs, Nicole Snyder, Brandon Snyder, Austin Kirton, Treyton Kirton, Christian Kirton, Laikyn Kirton and Evan Kirton, great-grandchildren Nicholas Rusie Jr., Jazmyn Rusie and Daxton Neibler; 18 nieces and nephews, 47 great-nieces and nephews, 8 Great-great-nieces and nephews as well as several cousins and relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held at Whitaker Funeral Home, 201 N. Lafayette St. Cloverdale, IN 46120 on September 23rd, 2017. Visitation will be from 12:00pm to 2:00pm with burial services immediately following at Cloverdale Cemetery. The children will be greeting family and friends immediately following his services at the American Legion located at 1401 Indianapolis Road, Greencastle, IN.
