Betty Lou Schwomeyer, 80, passed away May 18th, 2016, at her home. She was born on July 28, 1935, in Cedar Bluff, Virginia. She is the daughter of Jessie James Shrader and Rosie Ann Whitt. She married Joseph Schwomeyer, Jr., on January 17, 1952, and he preceded her in death on February 19, 1995. Beloved by many, she lived a full life, devoted to her family and friends. She was a member of Mt. Hebron Church and was employed for a number of years at Cloverdale Elementary School.
She is survived by her children, Gary Schwomeyer, Dedee Schwomeyer, Bruce Schwomeyer, Donna (Rob) Trivett, Jessie (Patrick) Parks, all of Cloverdale, Diana (David) Blanton, Greencastle, Travis (Tom) Schwomeyer, Savoy, IL., Denise (Tremier) Johnson, San Diego, CA., Joseph (Abigail) Schwomeyer, Savoy, IL., Megan Schwomeyer, Indianapolis, and Nick Schwomeyer, Greencastle. Betty Lou leaves a legacy of love and compassion that will continue on for generations. Her grandchildren include Zach (Erica) Combs, Derek (Bethany) Combs, Cecily (Isaac) Case, A.J. Monnett, Mark (Tammi) Schwomeyer, David Schwomeyer, BrieAnn Schwomeyer, Eliot Parks, Joel (Traci) Parks, Mitchell Parks, Lexus Trump, Ginny (Pat) Schmalix, Brendan Johnson, Ryan Johnson, many great-grandchildren, and extended family members.
She is also survived by her brothers, Howard (Tony) Shrader, Vernon (Nancy) Shrader, Alvie (Monica) Shrader and three sisters, Shirley (Vinton) Trump, Lois Calvert, and Norma (Vic) Foquet. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Sheri Rose Schwomeyer and her brothers Douglas Shrader, Joseph Shrader and Fred Shrader.
A nurturing caregiver, Betty Lou was considered a surrogate mother and grandmother by many. Over the years she opened her home and heart to anyone in need of a hug, cup of coffee or a place to stay. Whether you needed to get back on your feet or just a place to stay for the night, she always made room. Her grandchildren would like her to know that she was loved more than all the stars in the sky, more than all the drops of water in the ocean, and more than all the grains of sand on the beach. And she would like them to know she loves them more.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, May 21st, 2016 from 12pm- 3pm at Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale, Indiana, with funeral to follow. Interment will be in the Cloverdale Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at: cds@whitakerfuneralhome.net.
