Gary Michael (Mike) Monnett, age 55, Cloverdale, died at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 7, 2015, around 7:00pm due to complications from a massive heart
attack. Mike was surrounded by many loving family members at his time of death.
Born on October 20, 1959, to Margaret (Hinkle) Miller and Eugene Monnett in Greencastle, IN, both of whom have preceded him in death. Mike grew up in Cloverdale, IN and was a graduate of Cloverdale High School class of 1978. He attended DePauw University (1982) and studied accounting and finance during his time there. While attending DePauw he played baseball, pitcher/catcher, for the Tigers where he was named MVP.
Mike became a CPA and worked out of Elkhart, IN before establishing his own CPA firm in Cloverdale. On July 1, 2000, he joined Our Community Bank as a Vice-President/Chief Financial Officer. He also served on their Board of Directors. He was a member of Cloverdale United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughters Kelsey Monnett Brown (husband, Kyle) and Hannah Monnett (boyfriend, Alex Suits), his fianc Stacey Baugh, his siblings Deborah Monnett Gale, Brian Monnett (wife, Debora), Angie Monnett Swope. He is also survived by Staceys children Kyle Schroer (wife, Jena), Kristen Ferran (husband, Travis), Kole Schroer (wife, Ashlee Pinney), and Kade Schroer. His beloved grandchildren include Corinne Brown, Elijah Ferran, and Jace Schroer. Nieces and nephews include Mandy Monnett, Joey Monnett (wife, Samantha), Brooke Swope, as well as two great-nieces and three great-nephews.
Mike was a very family-oriented man who loved to be surrounded by his loved-ones. He enjoyed playing cards or board games and big family dinners. Over the past year, his enjoyment was centered around his grandchildren who he loved so much. Additionally, all who knew Mike knew him as an avid sports fan who followed Cloverdale athletics, IU football, basketball, and baseball, as well as the Indianapolis Colts. He also loved auctions, flea markets, and collecting coins. Mike will be remembered as a humble man who had a very kind, gentle soul. He was a giving and selfless person, who continually thought about the needs of others. He loved others deeply which was expressed simply by the twinkle in his eye.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, where family and friends may call on Sunday, January 11,2015 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Cloverdale Cemetery.
The family will be establishing a Mike Monnett Memorial Fund at OCB where donations will benefit the Community of Cloverdale and request that memorial contributions be made to the Mike Monnett Memorial Fund..
