She was born on March 16, 1922 in Morgan County, Indiana and was the daughter of the late George Herman and Madge Anna [Hazelett] Whitaker. She was married to H. Ray Johnson on September 20, 1940 and he preceded her in death on December 17, 2002. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eminence Baptist Church, O. E. S. # 546, Eminence and had been a Volunteer at St. Alexis Hospital in Chicago. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 1:30 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Stilesville Cemetery at Stilesville, Indiana. She is survived by her daughters – Carroll Suzanne Sorg and Jan Rae [Jerry] Brown; sister – Kehren [Jack] Westhead, 3 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters – Joan Goss, Jane Heckman, Martha Knox, brothers – Jerald G. and Charles Gordon Whitaker.
