John A. Hess, 80, Cloverdale, formerly of Cataract and Indianapolis, passed away on November 13, 2010 at Greencastle, Indiana. He was born on June 6, 1930 in Indianapolis and was the son of the late Fay R. and Dortha L. [Dunlap] Hess.
He married Ruby E. [Vickous] Hess on October 17, 1948 and she survives. He was a devoted, loving husband and father of six children, Zandra Mozzillo, Constance Stein, John Hess, II, LaVonne Cross, Deborah Mabry and Thomas Hess. He was blessed with 12 Grandchildren, 22 Great-grandchildren, including in-laws, step-grandchildren and many friends. He is also survived by his sisters Helen Sparks and Linda Mentillo.
John worked for the Railroad for 48 years and owned a fruit and vegetable market for 8 years. He served in the Navel Reserves for 4 years and was a member of the Englewood Masonic Lodge #715, F. & A. M. and the Terre Haute Valley of the Scottish Rite. His hobbies included traveling, farmers markets, gardening, auctions, games, feeding the birds, playing Santa Clause and will always be remembered for the DOTS.
The family requests that you join them for a Celebration of his life on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hurst-Collins American Legion Post #281, 501 South Main Street, Cloverdale. The family requests no flowers.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Lois Wooldridge.
